Schedulous Glossary
Average Attendance Frequency
The average number of times a member visits or checks in per week or month.
Definition
The average number of times a member visits or checks in per week or month.
Why It Matters
Attendance frequency is the strongest behavioral predictor of retention. Members who visit three or more times per week are dramatically less likely to cancel than members who visit once or not at all. Frequency is the canary in the coal mine.
Tracking average frequency across your membership base gives you a health score for your gym. If average visits per member are declining, retention problems are likely coming, even if no one has canceled yet. The behavior change precedes the cancellation by weeks or months.
Frequency data also helps you personalize outreach. A member who drops from four visits per week to one is sending a clear signal. A timely check-in from a coach or front desk staff can re-engage that member before they mentally check out.
Formula
Total Check-ins / Total Active Members (per week or month)
Industry Benchmark
Engaged members visit 2-4 times per week. An average below 1.5 visits per week across your base suggests an engagement problem.
